23rd Dec 2011 Social Network - URL Shortening

We have added another URL shortening service to the social network toolset, this one is provided by URLGo.eu, and will provide even shorter URLs than that of tinyurl.com.

There a couple of reasons that we would advise using this engine;
- shorter short URLs
- the ability to track how many times your link has been hit
- a fresh pool of short URLs, meaning when URLGo.eu start to allow bespoke URLs it is more likely that the URL you choose has not been taken already.
- URLGo.eu is a partner of ours so work closely with ourselves, in the future this may mean even more options are available to you.

Update to version 1.0.4 of the socialnetwork module to be able to use this new service, once you have updated remember to re-register the module by clicking on the spanner in the modules module.

To switch shortening services use the dropdown that is in the settings module under Social Network. If you have just registered the system will default to the new URLGo.eu service. You can change back to TinyUrl.com if you wish by selecting this option.
